Disc Pain

Symptoms, Causes, Treatments

Discs are the spacers between your spine, and they act as shock absorbers. When one of your discs becomes damaged, you can experience discomfort and pain in your back.

There are different types of damage that can occur to the discs.

  • Herniation - Also known as a slipped disc, is when the disc protrudes from the spine and causes pain and discomfort.
  • Degeneration - This occurs when a disc is literally wasting away and dying.
  • Whenever a disc is damaged, it can cause pain to shoot down the arms and hands, and it can cause the pain to travel down the legs and possibly into the feet. Disc injuries can also cause numbness or tingling, which can be even worse than pain, as you are now losing the ability to feel.

An untreated slipped disc can lead to permanent nerve damage. A slipped disc can cut off nerve impulses to your lower back and legs. If this occurs, you may lose bowel or bladder control. While the symptoms of a slipped disc may improve, they can also worsen. Don’t wait for the damage to become permanent, talk to one of our specialists today.

Dr. Jason and his team are the absolute best at what they do. I've been going to Discover Optimal Healthcare for more than 15 years now and they are the reason I'm able to do what I do day in and day out. For someone who suffers from chronic back pain, it would be impossible for me to be where I am today without their continued care and guidance. I'm forever grateful for all they've done and continue to do.
